Safeguarding the integrity of climate information is vital for informed democratic choices, effective policy, and public trust. Misinformation—whether through cherry-picked data, false balance, manipulated visuals, or misleading narratives—distorts risk perception, fuels polarization, and delays mitigation and adaptation when time is most critical. Upholding integrity means grounding communication in transparent methods, open and well-documented data, reproducible analyses, and clear explanations of uncertainty and limitations. It also requires rapid corrections, provenance labeling and source verification, accessible plain-language summaries, and culturally and linguistically tailored messaging that resonates with local realities. Strengthening media and data literacy, empowering trusted community messengers, and fostering collaboration among scientists, journalists, educators, civic leaders, and digital platforms are central to countering falsehoods at scale. In an era of AI-accelerated content, resilient information ecosystems—combining pre-bunking and timely debunking, platform accountability, and rigorous editorial standards—are essential. By prioritizing accuracy, transparency, and accountability, societies can translate evidence into equitable climate policies and practical action that protects people and the planet.

WhatsApp is one of the fastest and most massive pathways for information circulation in Brazil: it’s part of everyday life, has high open rates, and makes sharing in groups and lists effortless. This reach, however, also fuels misinformation about climate change, where rumors and decontextualized content go viral easily. Using WhatsApp itself as an editorial channel—with curation and accessible language—is a direct way to vie for attention, clear up confusion, and accelerate the spread of quality information.

== Channel proposal == 
- Format: 3–5 minute audio messages in a gossip tone (colloquial, “behind-the-scenes,” with hooks and reveals). 
- Content: hot topics and news from COP30, backstage insights, quick explainers, fact-checks, and debunks. 
- Authorship: climate-focused content creators from social networks, using a very informal, narrative style. 
- Frequency: 1–2 audios per day, sent via a WhatsApp broadcast channel. 
- Diffusion: encourage organic sharing among people, groups, and across other platforms. 
- Objective: expand the reach of critical coverage and counter misinformation with levity, agility, and the appeal of “gossip.”
